Panasonic SD-2501 Breadmaker Review

Panasonic Bread Maker Review

It’s a little-known fact, but Panasonic- or Matsushita Electric Industrial Co as they were known back in the day- were responsible for the first ever bread maker, released in Japan in 1986.

One of their more modern and most-loved bread maker models is that of the SD-2501.

Product features

This breadmaker comes with several innovative features, including;

  • 11 bread and dough modes- this maker allows you to create anything from traditional loaves of bread, to gluten-free bread, to pizza dough.
  • Three different loaf sizes- because you never know how many people you’ll end up baking for! This machine allows you to choose between medium, large, and extra large loaves.
  • Raisin/nut dispenser- this handy little gadget automatically dispenses things such as dried fruit, nuts, and seeds at the most appropriate timing whilst your bread bakes.
  • Crust control- you can adjust the crust of your bread to be light, medium, or dark –for the fussier types out there.

…amongst others. You can purchase the Panasonic 2501 bread maker here at Amazon, where the bargain of a price will get you;

As far as bread makers go, the Panasonic SD-2501 is one of the very best you can buy.Panasonic SD-2501

To test it out, we tried some of the various Panasonic bread maker recipes, some of which you can find in this blog post.

First of all, we tried their recipe for a basic white load of bread.

Using the machine was simple – all we had to do was measure and add the ingredients, select the appropriate mode on the machine (in this case, it was the Basic Bake mode), press the start/stop button, and then wait. It’s really that easy.

The result was fresh, delicious bread, without any of the preservatives or other nasty stuff that’s often found in bread in supermarkets.

To really put the machine to the test, we decided to try another recipe.

One of the stand-out features of the Panasonic SD-2501 bread maker is its ability to make pizza dough. This program has the machine create the dough, which you can then shape by hand.

Again, all we had to do was gather the ingredients, place them into the machine, select the setting, and wait.

We were left with dough that was just the right consistency to be kneaded and shaped appropriately. The pizzas created from said dough were much better than anything we’ve ever bought from a supermarket or takeaway – and probably a good deal healthier, too!

Finally, we decided to test the machine’s ability to make cake by following Panasonic’s fruity cake recipe.

We created the mix, lined the pan with baking parchment, placed the mixture inside, and then selected the ‘bake only’ program.

Just over an hour later, and we were left with perfectly moist and fluffy cake, without any added sugar or nastiness.

Overall, we were left very impressed by the machine’s versatility, ease of use, and quality of the finished products. All of the food we made exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely recommend them over store-bought products.

The machine is easy to use – you’re supplied with all of the instructions and recipes you need, and the interface itself is simple to navigate.

We couldn’t really find very many faults with our experience with the machine. The positives outweighed the negatives by a mile.

So, what are the advantages?

Where do we start?!

The machine can make practically any common bread product imaginable. Everything from pizza dough, to cake, to run-of-the-mill rolls and loaves.

It can even produce gluten-free loaves, which is a massive advantage for anyone who struggles to find store-bought gluten free bread that they enjoy.

Every one of the three recipes that we followed were easy to do so, with the rest of the recipes in the instruction book looking similarly simple to follow too.

Overall, the SD-2501 made for an easy, fun, and rewarding baking experience that caters to all tastes.

As for disadvantages, there were very few. The ones that did show were quite fickle, and could easily be avoided or tolerated.

This breadmaker wouldn’t likely fit in smaller spaces. When you open the lid, you’ll need quite a bit of space behind the machine, meaning that it most likely wouldn’t fit underneath wall-mounted cabinets. We recommend measuring the dimensions of where you intend to place your breadmaker against the machine itself before purchasing it.

Another thing we noticed is that when the machine is kneading the dough, it does tend to shudder and shake slightly – not unlike a washing machine on a spin cycle. It’s totally worth letting this minor inconvenience slide, though, for the amazing results that the machine produces.

We would recommend the Panasonic SD-2501 to practically anyone.

Its many features (predominantly the crust control, 11 bread and dough modes, and ability to creature different loaf sizes) means that it’ll adapt to practically any household.

If you’re the head of a large family, you can create a large loaf of bread that’ll last several days. If you’re living with someone who has a gluten intolerance, you can take advantage of the machines gluten-free mode. If you’re an avid baker, you have everything you need to create different kinds of bread, dough, croissants, cake, and more.

You get the picture – the Panasonic SD-2501 really is a jack of all trades…and a master of all of them!
